Greg Hanks Design
is a part time activity wherein I indulge myself with design/consultation that is both interesting and profitable. I am always looking for interesting projects.

I enjoy targeting 'issues' that require thinking outside the box.
My fulltime job is 'Senior Information Systems Architect' for a major health insurance company, and that does not leave me with a lot of spare time. BUT I still like to tinker with things outside of my daily grind.

Company History and Expertise
  • AUDIO/AUDIO/AUDIO .. Recording studio technology from 1969 to 1994... Includes Machine control, Echo system design and maintenance, Tube design and tape machine optimization. (See "Articles")
  • Marketing .. Initial experience based in promotion of above activities, leading to sales of electronics components, Leading to Internet
    Sales and Marketing
  • InterNetworking .. In 1994 the internet was a concept. Very few people were able to do much more than browse... I wanted to put our catalog online and sell to the engineers using the internet. I learned how to make it work, what's involved in distribution and how to build networks to support a robust internet system.
  • Telecommunications .. Voice, Data, Video, IM and Telepresence. The cabling infrastructure that makes the internet possible requires an understanding of the companies, people, systems and structures that require interoperation to pull all of these different disciplines together.
Gossip about my audio hardware:

"Fletcher"
"The BA-660 is one of the finest sounding units I have ever used in my life... if you have an opportunity to snag one, jump on it [or pass the information on to me so I can snag it]

The BA-660... its just too cool and flexible for words alone to able to describe it... I will warn you that it will lead directly to the purchase of stuff from Thermionic Culture, InnerTUBE, and a lot of other really pricey kinda stuff.

Remember when you were in grade school and they told you that pot would lead directly to Heroin? That's kinda like the warning I'm giving you about the BA-660."

"Ron Allaire, Skyline"
"The only ba-660 I know of lives at Chung King (if it hasn't been swiped). That pre is based on a "mu follower" circuit, which is a cathode follower with gain by way of an "active" plate resistor and a "constant" current source on the cathode resistor. The Avalon 737 is a similar circuit and sounds NOTHING like the Hanks. Also, it's a completly different animal than the V series, which imo is a more "traditional" pre. The ba stands for "bad ass" and it pretty much sums it up."
